More than Chopin

The Chopin Year will be the focal point of the Polish presence at the MIDEM Fair opening in Cannes on 24 January. Its motto will be ‘Polska. More than Chopin’.

Poland’s national pavilion is the work of the prominent Slovak-born Polish designer Boris Kudlicka and Jurek Jagoda. It combines the traditional black colour of the piano with Polish national colours – white and red. Poland’s top labels will promote their recordings of Chopin’s music and a MIDEM Classical Award will presented for the best Chopin recording.

A gala ceremony on 26 January, co-organised by the National Chopin Institute in Warsaw, will be graced by a concert of Sinfonietta Cracovia under the renowned Polish conductor Jacek Kaspszyk, with the 14 year-old Polish-born Canadian pianist Jan Lisiecki as a soloist.

On 1 March 2010 Poland and the whole musical world will mark the bicentenary of the birth of Chopin.
