Remembering Pope John Paul II
Events marking the fourth anniversary of the death of Pope John Paul II are held all over Poland. They include religious services, concerts, exhibitions, film shows, book launches and sports competitions.
Prayers are said for the pope’s speedy beatification and night vigils are planned in many towns.
In the Vatican, Cardinal Stanislaw Dziwisz, who served as the Pope’s personal secretary, said a morning mass at the pontiff’s tomb. In an interview for Polish Radio, Cardinal Dziwisz said that even though there is a growing interest in the life and teaching of John Paul II, there is a need to find new ways of presenting his legacy. One of them is an internet portal www.franciszkanska3.pl which has just been launched. The Cardinal described it as a forum for a dialogue, especially with young people. ‘In this we follow in the footsteps of the Pope who spared no effort to establish contact with young people to show the beauty of the Gospel to them’, he said.
