Poland win speedway world title!
Poland beat Australia in a nail biting final race of the speedway world championships, Sunday, to emerge victorious in front of their home fans.
Australia had led to the competition for most of the rounds only to be pipped to the line by Poland’s captain, Tomasz Gollob in the final race.
This was the third time the team from Poland have won the FIM Tobet Speedway World Cup in the last five years.
The finals took place at the Alfred Smoczyk Stadium in Leszno, western Poland and had to be delayed from Saturday night to Sunday due to heavy storms. Eight teams battled it out for the title - Denmark, Poland, Sweden, Australia, Great Britain and Russia, Slovenia and the Czech Republic.
