Poland - volleyball champions of Europe!

Poland’s victorious men’s volleyball team will return home lunchtime, Monday, to a heroes welcome after beating France in the European Championships final in Izmir, Turkey.

The team, led by Argentinean coach Daniel Castellani, beat the French last night three sets to one and take home the nation’s first ever European Championship gold medals.
They will touch down at 12.40 CET at Warsaw’s Okecie airport where hundreds of fans will greet them. There, the team will be whisked through the capital’s streets to a special victory celebration in Plac Defilad under the Palace of Culture in the centre.
As well as winning gold medals, Piotr Gruszka was voted Most Valuable Player of the tournament and Pawel Zagumny Best Setter.
This is the first medal for Poland’s volleyball team since the picked up a silver, 26 years ago, in the championships in Berlin.
